Using inquiry-based language: I wonder if... I think I will discover... I predict...
This is an example of the type of language we use in the classroom. All students made predictions before we started the "eggsperiment". Some predicted that the eggs would explode, others thought it would sink to the bottom of the cup, and some wondered if it would change colour. We learned that sometimes our predictions come true, while other times they do not. We spoke about making realistic predictions. When examining the final results, we looked at our predictions and discussed our findings.
We put all our hard boiled eggs in the cups with Pepsi. The children enjoyed watching the eggs throughout the day and were often found discussing their predictions and whether or not they thought they were right.
We had to check on our eggs after lunch! We were able to discuss what happens when we drink soda or eat candy and how it can affect our teeth (especially when we don't brush and floss). This led to our discussion on cavities.
Dawson is discovering what happens when you brush the egg after one day. We discovered that the eggs turn colour when they are left in soda over night. We also found that after brushing the eggs they started to turn white again, but it took a lot of elbow grease! By the end of the unit, we learned how important it is to brush our teeth and developed our vocabulary.
